Owensboro has received an $84,000 grant from the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
The city is celebrating 26 years as a “Tree City USA” community, and city leaders are taking new steps to expand and protect its urban forest.
The funding will go toward improving tree health, safety, and access across 10 city parks in efforts to preserve and grow the city’s tree canopy.
Trees and urban canopies not only provide shade but also help reduce heat and help improve air filtration.
