Evansville City leaders approved the mayor’s $152 million Budget for next year.
$182,000 has been set aside for Flock Safety cameras, which some residents are opposed to.
They say it’s an invasion of privacy and argue they were installed without public input.
Evansville Police Chief Philip Smith addressed the concerns, saying the department has strict procedures in place to prevent misuse.
He pointed to the cameras’ role in solving crimes, including a 2022 child kidnapping case.
Smith said the technology has not been found unconstitutional and defended the department’s track record.
