Story by Bob Freeman.
He said he didn’t steal the gun, but he’d bring it back if authorities wouldn’t charge him. They declined that offer and charged Miray Smith with theft of a firearm.
This happened when an Evansville gun store called police after a fun shipped to an out of State buyer never arrived. Investigators tracked the package to a UPS location.
Surveillance video showed an employee later identified at Smith concealing at least two packages rather than processing them through the facility. Smith refused to elaborate on where the handgun was, or explain how he would be able to retrieve it.
He is being held in the Vanderburgh County jail.
