Vanderburgh County commissioners voted unanimously on Tuesday to award ambulance service for Center, Perry, and Union townships to the Evansville Fire Department.
Their official first day on the job starts today.
Chief Tony Knight says EFD currently has 47 full-time staff and seven part-time employees, with plans to expand part-time staffing to 23 within the next month.
EFD will continue to provide EMS services throughout its current coverage area, which includes all areas within the City of Evansville, Knight Township, and Pigeon Township.
