A high school resource officer is being accused of using excessive force on a student.
The girl’s mother claims the officer handcuffed her daughter, picked her up, and slammed her to the ground after an altercation with another student.
The incident took place on April 16 at the Academy for Innovative Studies.
The school claims the 9th grader did not comply with the officer’s commands.
An EVSC statement claimed that district leadership and the EVSC Chief of Police conducted a thorough on-site review.
That review confirmed the officer’s actions were appropriate.
The girl’s injuries are improving, but the family says she does not feel safe returning to school and is calling for the officer to be fired.
