Indiana State Police in Jasper District say they recently received reports of scams involving individuals claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House.
In these cases, scammers contact victims by phone and use caller ID spoofing to display the Indiana State Police Jasper District’s telephone number, making the call appear legitimate.
Scammers like to use this tactic to gain the victim’s trust and persuade them to provide money or personal information.
Authorities say they will never request gift cards or other financial information over the phone.
