Evansville is offering to replace lead pipes in some west side neighborhoods at no cost.
Crews are checking in with homeowners along Broadway, Franklin Street, and Poplar Grove to inspect the pipes.
Those pipes can be made of several materials, with lead being one of the most worrisome.
Lead is dissolved by water and could end up in drinking water.
The project is part of the EPA’s lead and copper rule improvements, which require the utility to identify all service lines connecting homes to the water main.
